The primary objective of the game is to allow novices to better understand the sequence of the operations and manage the potential risks which may occur during the launch process. It is a complex but vital process which can save lives at sea but also has many potential hazards. In this paper, we design and implement a 3D game with the support of virtual reality equipment which imitates the process of a lifeboat launch, involving both tractor manoeuvres and boat operations. Novel, advanced game techniques provide us with new possibilities to mimic a complicated training process, with the added benefit of enhanced safety. Our current research focuses on its use with serious games for traffic education.

This opens the possibilities to employ and use driving simulators for a wider set of applications. The result shows that the level of realism is sufficient and that the entertainment value was considered to be high. In these experiments driving school students were instructed to freely explore a driving game specifically designed for the simulator platform. Observations from a set of experiments conducted in the simula-tor are presented in this paper. In addition, the architecture is scalable and allows for using commercial video games in the simulator. The use of consumer electronics, standard game technology and limited motion feedback makes this simulator relatively inexpensive. Each screen is handled by a standard PC, typically used for computer games, and the projection on the screens is handled by budget LCD-projectors. The core of the simulator is a complete car surrounded by seven screens.
